International Elders Day 2024 was observed at Southern Railway Headquarters hospital, Perambur on 01.10.2024 at the OPD complex of New Railway hospital. Dr.Nirmala Rajaram, PCMD/PER, Dr.S.Kalyani, MD/RH/PER, Dr.V.Kannan, CSS/ADMIN/RH/PER, Dr.J. Chitra/ ACHD/OPD incharge and Dr. K.P. Lalitha, ACHD/Health and Family welfare, Presided over the function along with other medical officers.
The programme was initiated with an introductory speech by Dr. K.P. Lalitha, ACHD/HFW, followed by the discussion on the theme of the year “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide' by Dr.P.RamaPrabha, DMO/RH/PER. Dr.S.Kalyani, MD/RH/PER, emphasised on the importance of promoting healthy living conditions for elderly that respect the dignity, beliefs, needs, and privacy of older persons. Dr.Nirmala Rajaram, PCMD/PER, highlighted the needs and importance of the support systems during old age. Dr.V.Kannan, CSS/ADMIN discussed the comprehensive health care of the elderly people. Dr.J. Chitra/ ACHD emphasised on healthy ageing and well-being of the elderly communities.
A brief quiz was conducted on the Nutritional needs of elderly people and prizes were distributed to the participants by the Guest of Honour. The programme was well perceived and around 150 people benefitted.
