Department of Nutrition

General Information

 The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics was started in the year 1975 and was managed by the hospital Chief Matrons initially and later around 1979, Dieticians were appointed and the department was taken over by them. The saying ‘You are what you eat’ highlights the impact of diet on overall health. A balanced diet is crucial, providing essential nutrients for optimal body function, reducing disease risks like heart disease, diabetes and lifestyle disease.

Academics

  1. Regular training for nursing and nutrition students on Food science, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics

  2. Conducting nutrition education programmes and providing health talks to OPD patients on prevention and management of non-communicable diseases.

  3. Nutritional assessment

  4. Planning and executing therapeutic diets for in-patients

  5. Personalized diet counselling to OPD patients and in patients helping them make healthier food choices and management of diseases such as Kidney Disease, Heart Disease, Metabolic Syndrome, Obesity, Weight Management, Gastric disorders, Cancer, Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, and Nutritional guidelines through life cycle such as nutrition during pregnancy and lactation .and other communicable diseases where nutrition intervention id required.

  6. Tailored diet charts to specific disease conditions.

  7. Enteral nutrition for ICU patients.

  2.  Supervision of the preparation of diets in the hospital kitchen.

  3. Management of hospital kitchen. Procurement of utensils and equipment required for the smooth running of kitchen.
