Dr. U.K. Perumal assumed charge as Principal Chief Medical Director of Southern Railway in November 2025. Prior to his posting as PCMD at Southern Railway, he was serving as Principal Chief Medical Director at East Central Railway where he contributed significantly to strengthening healthcare delivery systems and administrative efficiency. He has put in 35 years of service in the Indian Railways.
Dr. U.K. Perumal belongs to UPSC 1989 Batch. He is a native of Palakkad, Kerala. He did his graduation at Calicut Medical College, Kerala. He joined Railway service during the year 1990. An officer of the Indian Railway Health Services cadre Dr. Perumal brings with him a rich and diverse administrative experience spanning multiple zones. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has served in various capacities across four railway zones viz. Central Railway, Southern Railway, North Western Railway and East Central Railway. He has served as Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) in North Western Railway and Chief Health Director (CHD) in Southern Railway.
His extensive background in open-line healthcare administration & management and grass root level experience will further enhance the medical services and health infrastructure.
