General Information

The Department of Medicine at Southern railway headquarters hospital aims to provide a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary approach to digestive health and to teach the art and science of gastroenterology to postgraduates undergoing DNB course training in the Internal medicine department.

The Gastroenterology and hepatology division at Perambur Railway hospital offers following lines of service with a team of physicians, nurses who are highly trained and dedicated to digestive health.

Hepatology & Luminal Gastroenterology 

✓ Heavy burden of patients infected with HBV (Hepatitis B virus) and HCV (Hepatitis C  virus) and alcoholic liver disease referred from entire Southern railway are treated  efficiently and followed up regularly

✓ HCC (Hepato Cellular Carcinoma) surveillance is being done periodically 

✓ Family screening for HBV and HCV and vaccination advised for family members with  infected candidate

✓ NAFLD – Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease an epidemic with numerous patients  referred from entire Southern Railway are evaluated and managed 

✓ Patients with Chronic diarrhea are evaluated and cases of IBD, Koch’s disease,  eosinophilic colitis, lymphocytic colitis etc are detected and managed effectively 

✓ Our GE centre is the only referral center for other divisions of SR and RH/ICF 

GE clinic: 2 days/week → Average 280 patients/month→ Approx 3300  patients/year
