Dr. N. M. Kumar assumed the charge of Medical Director of Southern Railway Head Quarters Hospital in September 2025. He was the Chief Staff Surgeon at the same hospital from November 2024. He has also served as the Chief Anaesthesiologist Specialized in Cardiac Anesthesia in Cardio Thoracic Vascular Department at Perambur Railway Hospital and he is currently the Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology.

Dr. N.M Kumar joined Indian Railway Health Service in 1994 after completing MBBS and Postgraduation from Madras Medical College. He has served the Indian Railways in the Central and Southern Railway for 31 years in various capacities. He is known for his clinical expertise and administrative capabilities.

Dr. N. M. Kumar is well known for his patient care and excellence in cardiac peri operative care of the patient. He has 23 years of teaching experience. He is an examiner for the Post Graduate DNB course in Anaesthesiology. He was awarded the Southern Railway GM award in 2005 and Railway Board award for the Best Doctor in 2012.
