World Alzheimer's Day, 2024 was observed at Southern Railway Head Quarters Hospital, Perambur on 23/09/24 at the Retired Employees OP premises, New building. PCMD/PER, Dr.Nirmala Rajaram, MD/RH/PER, Dr.S.Kalyani and Dr.V.Kannan/CSS/RH/PER were the guests of honour. Dr.K.P.Lalitha/ ACHD/ Health and Family Welfare, Dr.J.Chitra/ OPD Incharge and other medical officers and Asst Nursing Officers graced the occasion.
The program started with an introductory speech by Dr.K.P.Lalitha and the theme of the year, "Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer's" was discussed by Dr.P.Hemalatha/ACHD/ Psychiatrist. The warning signs, risk factors, signs and symptoms, treatment and prevention strategies were discussed and salient features highlighted by powerpoint presentation by the two Contract Psychologists, Miss.Manisha Sivadharshini and Mr.Sharan. A brief quiz was conducted and the participants received plant saplings as prizes, which were distributed by PCMD, MD and CSS. Pamphlets regarding Preventive measures and Self Assessment charts were distributed to the beneficiaries. The program was concluded with an inspirational and spellbinding speech by the Medical Director on how to improve memory. About 150 patients and their families were benefited and the program was well received by the audience. Two persons volunteered for memory screening tests and were reported to be within normal limits.
